Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
Summary of the Comprehensive Strategic Plan
2007 - 2012
Mission Statement
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at West Texas A&M University, a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, seeks to further the institution's mission of educating tomorrow's leaders by providing a comprehensive and highly competitive athletic program for the benefit of participants, the student body, our community and West Texas A&M University.
In addition to the knowledge gained from a challenging academic program, we believe that participation in intercollegiate athletics should include opportunities for student-athletes to develop and hone critical leadership and life skills that will assist in shaping their future success after graduation.
The Department promotes an environment that encourages student-athletes to reach their maximum potential in athletic competition, academic progress and personal development, and will provide the resources necessary for student-athletes to achieve success in each of these pursuits. We will ensure equitable opportunities for men and women and will encourage diversity in each of our programs.
The Department advocates service to our community and embraces the NCAA Division II philosophy of balance between academics and athletics.
