Buffs Offense Overpowers RiverHawks in 16-10 Win

CANYON, Texas - - Eight of the nine starting batters in the Buffs' line-up picked up at least one hit on Friday afternoon, as the West Texas A&M baseball team sailed past Northeastern State, 16-10. The win improves WT's overall record to 9-38 on the season and 6-30 in Lone Star Conference play. The Buffs pushed across one run in the first inning, before blowing the game open with seven runs on nine hits in the bottom of the second. West Texas A&M sent 12 batters to the plate, starting off the second with seven consecutive hits including a Will McLaughlin home run to left center. The River Hawks answered back with six runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning, but the Buff bats were too strong, scoring seven runs in the last four innings to seal the win. Leading the way for WTAMU was Jake Parsons and Justin Graham, who each picked up four hits on the day. Parsons drove in five runs, including hitting leadoff home runs in the fourth and seventh innings. WT starter Billy Zeleznack (3-6) picked up the win on the mound while Northeastern pitcher Jacob Lago fell to 5-5 on the season. Zeleznack went seven strong innings before Brandon Hickey and Eric Henderson combined for no hits in the final two innings of relief. The Buffs are back in action on Saturday against the River Hawks with a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. from Conner Park. |
