Mollie Peterson

July 9, 2008

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M University women's golf team members Mollie Peterson and Christal Kendrick were selected as National Golf Coaches Association 2007-2008 All-American Scholars, as announced by the NGCA.

The team is comprised of individuals who have recorded a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have competed in at least 66% of their team's regularly-scheduled rounds during the season. The Lady Buff pair were selected to the NGCA's Division II team.

During 2007-08, Peterson, a sophomore from Texico, N. M., was a first-team all-Lone Star Conference selection after posting the overall individual win at the Grizzly Invitational held in Alamosa, Colo., as well as placing runner up at WTAMU's Lady Buff Stampede. A Math Education major, she was named to the 2008 LSC all-Academic team as well as having been named to the All-Scholar team following her freshman season.

"I am very proud of Mollie's being named to the All-Scholar team for a second time," said WT head coach Meredith Jameson. "One of Mollie's personal goals this season was to excel in the classroom and on the course. She accomplished both and will likely garner more honors in the coming years."

Christal Kendrick

Kendrick, a sophomore from Arlington, Texas, majoring in Biotechnology, was in her first season with the Lady Buff program, having transferred from Western Texas College. She was the Lady Buff's top performer at the Red River Intercollegiate as well as the Lady Lion Invitational, earning top-10 finishes in both tournaments. Kendrick was also a member of the 2008 LSC all-Academic team.

"Christal is the perfect student-athlete," Jameson said. "She understands the importance of academic success and is a diligent worker, both in the classroom as well as on the links."

A total of 402 women's collegiate golfers were recognized as All-American Scholars in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III.
